I am:

• Moor – Mora = Spanish American of contorted and mixed heritage= I am a mutt! A lot spanish (which means as the saying in my mother’s homeland- white, black behind the ears and everything else in between), enough Arab left in me to understand where they are coming from at times, american enough to appreciate hot apple pie and ice cream, hot dogs and baseball, and Philly cheese steaks!
• Muslimah – by choice NOT by marriage or family ties.
• Married to a Yemeni that sometimes drives me up a wall and at other times melts my heart.
• A workaholic – I am as the title goes an Associate Director in the Administrative enclave of a major trauma hospital – long hours, tons of work, a fantastic boss, fab office, and the only place in the US I have peace and space to be creative- work requires a huge mental box that I have to keep thinking out of- my idea of fun!
• An environmentalist by association- my youngest whose love of Graff Art does not stop her from yelling at comercials that so-called promote renewable energy, if it means burning fossil fuels, off shore drilling, and such… Yes we are trying to diminish our Carbon Footprint – we commute via public transportation daily and rarely if ever use the car.
• A fashion lover also by association – my second is a fashionista of the first order; it runs in the family. So I am all for keeping up with the times as long as I dress my age LOL!
• Praying constantly to Allah SWT to keep my son safe – he is out there serving his country- been around the world now after more than six years of service and an all around good, clean, honest man whose convictions I respect because he is coming from a global view of things.
• Opininated, cantankerous, and a hopeful writer that usually leaves my husband wondering if I will get hung one of these days; my kids applauding my mouthfuls, and me swinging the pendulum writers seem to take on when their moods are expressed in their essays.
• A reader of old, new, history, futuristic (got to understand what may come even if I am not here to witness it).
• A traveler – absolutely love to get on a plane and land somewhere new- journal in hand – backpack and comfy shoes- watching and absorbing as much as I can. My son and I have a competition going- he is winning me by leaps and bounds; but he says in my case I can chose to stay longer while he only gets vacation days off to explore if it is possible.
• Evolving every day a new thing adds a layer to my being; everyday another is peeled off- sometimes with agonizing precision!
• And last but never least member of a clan that is as global as you can make them and member by marriage to a tribe I by turns want to love, strangle, cuddle, educate!
