Recently I sat to watch on Link TV a documentary on Melvana Jelaludin Rumi who said, ” The religion of Love is like no other.” At home we are surrounded by books; and some of our favorites are of poetry. In the next few posts I will bring forth my favorite translated versions of Rumi & Hafiz. I hope you enjoy them and give me your input on this fascinating theme on the poetry of Love.

In this particular first post on Rumi; I would like to “read” to you (hope you read it aloud) a poem that to me epitomizes my thoughts of my marriage to my dear husband. Love you rohi, now and forever…

This Marriage

“May these vows and this marriage be blessed.

May it be sweet milk,

this marriage, like wine and halvah.

May this marriage offer fruit and shade like date palm.

May this marriage be full of laughter,

our every day a day in paradise.

May this marriage be a sign of compassion,

a seal of happiness here and hereafter.

May this marriage have a fair face and a good name,

an omen as welcome

as the moon in a clear blue sky.

I am out of words to describe

how spirit mingles in this marriage.”

Translated by Kabir Helminski – Love is a Stranger
